Toad Fencing

Toad fencing is manufactured to the same specification as Herpetosure’s newt and slow worm fencing. Although few toad species have the same level of protection as Great Crested Newts, at certain times of the year vast numbers of toad species migrate across roads to breeding ponds. Herpetosure toad fencing is often installed along road sides in areas known as toad crossings, and used to direct toads through culverts under the road.

FITTING DESCRIPTION

The fence panels are fitted either into a 300 x 50mm slit created by a V backed sub soiler or “wiz” plough pulled by a tractor or in a trench excavated using a chain trencher or mini digger. Alternatively, if necessary, the trench is dug by hand. The preferred method for best results and most efficient fitment is the slitting method, where conditions suit. Once the panels are sited the slit is closed up by driving back along the line of the fence with a tractor, vehicle or compacted by hand. This creates a total seal between the soil and panels, which are fitted to the side of the trench nearest to the relevant population or the inside if a containment area. The panels are overlapped by 50mm then secured by aluminium blind rivets along the overlap joint. Panels can be cut down or the overlap increased to allow for uneven ground or contours.
