Common Toadflax (Linaria vulgaris) is sometimes known as Butter and Eggs. The flowers themselves look similar to thta of Snapdragons and are often densely grouped together. The stem is upright and the narrow leaves are packed with long spurred, yellow flowers with orange centers. It is commonly found on waste grounds, grasslands, roadsides and hedgerows.
The plant is medium sized with leaves that are grey in colour. The yellow flowers appear from June to October and are packed tightly along the straight spurs. Although it can be found on acidc sites, it is most frequently found on calcareous soils. The seeds are spread by the wind, it produces a large amount of buds on the roots which in time lead to the large colonies of plants. The structure of these flowers means that it is pollinated by larger bees.
